Light level tickets allow for the opportunity of addressing potential issues proactively, before a customer experiences a service affecting issue. These tickets can be used as preventive measures to limit subscribers calling about issues due to outages as a user will be notified of the outage. Then the user will be able to send an email or SMS text to the subscriber about the outage warning them of it and let them know that there are actions in place to resolve the outage as quickly as possible.

To get an understanding of the different configurations Vision offers with the light level ticket notification process here are the configurations

  • The thresholds of what triggers a light level ticket can be adjusted, separately for both OLT Rx optical level and the ONT Rx optical level.
  • The individual monitored item triggers can be disabled. Ie you would like to receive light level tickets for ONT Rx light level issues, but not for OLT Rx light level issues.
  • A monitoring alert user can be created in Vision as set to the default assignment for light level tickets. This would mean no user would receive email alerts, however the tickets would still be opened automatically and could be managed directly in Vision.
  • Automated light level tickets can be disabled entirely.

The light level monitoring will update the levels reading every 15 minutes in Vision, this will limit tickets being produced due to reboots and accidental turnoffs. The tickets can be changed to what identifies as a low light level warning that can be set up through the monitoring environment that you are using. To get a glimpse into how the light levels for a group of subscribers, the monitoring map is a good place to see a large number of subscribers and if their equipment is working properly.

Light levels will be impacted by the layout and deployment of the fiber cable, they are designed to understand the difference in how it was built versus designed. If the fiber cable was designed one way and the building process had changed or impacted the design it may be a challenge with light levels. The light levels could read in the appropriate range one minute and then the next could be reading a low range which could cause a ticket to be produced due to Vision believing there is a problem with the subscribers device when there is no problem just a poorly built fiber drop. With light level tickets the warning of low light levels on a subscriber's devices allow for preventive measures to be made on your side before a customer can report a problem. Also these tickets do close automatically when the light levels return back to the desired range that is set.
