Road Alert
Active construction affects I-70 and downtown Columbia — plan ahead
  • Providence Road bridge at I-70 — demolition May 29–30; I-70 narrows to one lane each direction. Providence Road closed at the interstate through summer. Affects north-south navigation through central Columbia.
  • I-70 widening work zones east (toward St. Louis) and west (toward Kansas City) of Columbia — add 15–30 minutes to your drive time.
  • Hwy 63 southbound (from the south) — Grindstone Pkwy northbound ramps may be closed with detour signage. Southbound ramps unaffected.

If you can connect through ORD, DFW, or DEN, COU is the easiest door-to-door option — 15 minutes to the hotel with no shuttle or long drive. STL has more airlines and often cheaper fares; use the MOX shuttle to connect. MCI works if that's where your routing lands, but STL ground options are more frequent.

02 · STL Shuttle
MOX Airport Shuttle

MOX runs 10 scheduled round trips daily between St. Louis Lambert (STL) and Columbia. Express service runs pickup and dropoff at the MOX office in Columbia. Door-to-door service is available at a higher rate.

Group discount: First passenger pays full fare. Each additional passenger on the same itinerary pays $50 one-way or $100 round-trip. Two or three people from your company flying into STL can come out cheaper than a rental — especially if you're staying downtown and won't need a car once you're here.

Door-to-door service: $70 one-way / $135 round-trip online, with slightly different departure times. Check moexpress.com for full schedules and to book online.

Reservations: (573) 256-1991 or toll-free (877) 669-4826. Payment required in advance to confirm. Tips not included in the fare. If arriving late, note that the last STL departure is 11:30 PM.

03 · By Car
Driving In

Three active construction zones affect the drive to Columbia in early June. Add 15–30 minutes to any trip on I-70 and check MoDOT's traveler map the morning you leave.

Providence Road Bridge · Downtown Columbia
I-70 narrows June 2–3 — plan for one lane each direction
MoDOT is demolishing and replacing the Providence Road bridge over I-70. Targeted demolition window is May 29–30, with I-70 narrowed to one lane each direction during work. Providence Road will be fully closed at the interstate through summer — this affects north-south travel through central Columbia. If driving locally between the Hampton Inn area and downtown, you may need alternate routes. Detour signage will be in place.
I-70 East · Toward St. Louis
Columbia to Kingdom City
Between the US 63 interchange and US 54. Two lanes open each direction during the day, but expect reduced speeds and lane shifts through the work zone.
I-70 West · Toward Kansas City
Rocheport to Columbia
14-mile fresh work zone from the Missouri River bridge to US 63. Two lanes open during the day; construction patterns may still be settling in early June.
Highway 63 · From the South
Grindstone Pkwy ramps may be closed
If coming up from Springfield, Jefferson City, or south on Hwy 63: northbound on- and off-ramps at Grindstone Pkwy in south Columbia have construction underway. Watch for signed detour. Southbound ramps are unaffected. The rest of Hwy 63 between Jeff City and Columbia is straightforward.

04 · Transportation
Do I Need a Rental Car?
Staying at The Broadway or Tiger Hotel
Probably not.
The conference venue, restaurants, coffee, and evening options are all within walking distance. A rental would mostly sit in a parking garage. Between the MOX shuttle and rideshare apps, ground transportation is covered without one.
Staying at the Hampton Inn
Plan on a car or rideshare.
The Hampton is about a mile south of downtown — not a comfortable walk. Free on-site parking means no added cost if you have a rental. If you'd rather not drive, rideshare apps work well for the conference commute.

06 · Coffee
Coffee in The District

Columbia has a strong local coffee scene. All of the following are in The District, walking distance from The Broadway and The Tiger Hotel. Hampton Inn guests: a short rideshare away, or grab coffee at the hotel before heading over.

Shortwave Coffee
Generally considered the best coffee in town. Two nearby locations: Alley A (small, cozy roaster) and 9th & Cherry (bigger, food, table chargers — good for working).
Lakota Coffee
Columbia institution since 1992. Roasts their own beans, open late. Reliable and familiar.
Fretboard Coffee
The spot if you care about brew methods — more options than anywhere else in town, including syphon brewing.
The Lobby Bar
At The Broadway. Espresso in the morning, cocktails in the evening. Good for a fast cup before sessions.
07 · Dining
Food Near the Hotels
Broadway & Tiger Hotel Guests
Downtown Columbia's District
Packed with restaurants within a few blocks — local, chef-owned spots alongside casual favorites. Quick bites, sit-down dinners, late-night options. If organizing a group dinner, make a reservation. Downtown gets busy on weeknights. 11Eleven at The Broadway is better than typical hotel fare if you don't feel like wandering.
Hampton Inn Guests
Stadium Blvd Area
Stadium Blvd has its own cluster of restaurants and fast-casual spots — you don't need to head downtown for a quick meal. For a sit-down dinner or late-night options, downtown is a short drive or rideshare away.
